Fern Odash

Fern Alice Hassebroek Odash, passed away at the age of 83 on July 21, 2017, at Modesto, CA. Born in Spooner, WI on February 7th in 1934, the daughter of Ralph Raymond and Gertrude Clara Reints Hassebroek, where she graduated from Spooner High School. She met and married the love of her life Donald Odash of Canton, WI, in 1952 and set up their home in Rice Lake with their five children and lived for over 50 years. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a young woman and later at Lakeview Medical Center and Barron Hospital.

Fern found a rug loom and for many years made and sold rag rugs. She also made many hand tatted items. They purchased Fern’s mother’s home in Mesa, AZ and were snowbirds for many years, finally selling their house in Rice Lake and moving to Mesa. You could find her and Don at many of the craft shows in the Mesa, AZ area selling her handmade items. She moved to Modesto two years ago into a senior residential home. Fern was the best berry picker you’ve ever seen. She loved playing cards, watching Westerns and she never forgot a thing.

She is survived by her children: Mary Swanson (Bill Martin) of Escalon, CA; David (Lorri) Odash of Barron, WI; Susan (David) Parry of Hanford, CA, Daniel (Deborah) Odash of San Marcos, CA and son-in-law, Rick Hingtgen of New Auburn, WI. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Odash, daughter, Diane Odash Hingtgen, grandson Joshua Carr, and parents Ralph and Gertrude Hassebroek,

Celebration of Fern’s life will be held on Sat, Aug 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St, Escalon, CA and afterwards a gathering at The Gate of Beautiful, 1813 Elder Lane, Modesto, CA. An additional Celebration of Fern’s life will be held on Sat. Aug 26 at 1:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 785 Nunn Avenue, Rice Lake, WI 54868
