James Larrick

“Jim” was born March 23, 1931, in Lodi CA. He passed away at the age of 86 on December 27, 2017 in Modesto, CA. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank C. Larrick Sr.& Gladys Brooks Larrick, brothers F. Clinton Larrick Jr., Frank B. Larrick and Phillip Larrick. He was also predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis, who passed in 2011. He is survived by his three children, Michele “Mikki” Feeney (Patrick), Marcia Boer (John), and J.Matthew (“Matt”) Larrick (Debbie). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Jim served in the US Navy during the Korean war. He enlisted July 20, 1952, following in the footsteps of his three older brothers, who had all served during WWII. His twin brothers Frank and Phil were on the USS Aargone during the bombing of Pearl Harbor and saw firsthand the destruction there. Jim served 3 years, 9 months and 25 days aboard the USS A.A. Cunningham DD-752. He earned the service ribbons for: Korean Service, United Nations, Navy Occupation, China Service, Good Conduct, and National Defense. He was a Fire Control Technician Third Class.

Jim was an egg quality inspector for the USDA, and traveled around Stanislaus and surrounding counties to egg packing houses.  He also worked for various egg packing facilities over the years, and an egg producer himself. He was a volunteer fireman with the Waterford-Hickman Fire Department. He also served as a commissioner for the district.

Jim also worked for the Shell Development Company when it had the facility in Salida, CA. He worked in the Animal Health Division. He introduced our Uncle Clinton to a co-worker who became our Aunt Linda. This meeting also facilitated their move to Waterford, and entering into a partnership with them in the sheep business.

Jim was a kind and generous man, and often told jokes. He never met a stranger. He supported our mom in all her activities over the years, and never complained. He missed her terribly from the day she died, and now they are re-united, and he can rest in peace.

The family would like to thank Doctors Hospital and the wonderful Nurses and staff for the compassionate care he received while in their care. We would also like to give a huge THANK YOU to Dr. R.J. Heck MD. Thanks for listening to him and understanding what he wanted. Thank you, Optimal Hospice for your care and understanding.  Finally thank you to Marinela Placintar and the staff of Golden Age retirement VI for the wonderful care you have given our father in the last few years of his life. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
