Alice J Steigenga

Alice Jeanette Steigenga, Age 85, finished her earthly race and entered heaven on January 15, 2021.

Alice was born, raised and lived her life in Ripon, CA.  Born to John and Susie Nykamp in the house her carpenter-father had completed earlier in ’35, Alice met her future spouse/late husband, Joseph Jr. Steigenga, prior to entering Ripon Christian Schools.  They grew up together, as their parents, the Nykamps and the Rev. & Mrs. J.J. Steigenga were close friends.  Alice married Joe on “tax day”, April 15, 1955.  Alice was a life-long member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Ripon.  She was humble, gentle and gracious, with a ready laugh and listening ear.  She loved “putzing” in her yard, gardening (great tomatoes!), camping (collecting pine-cones for the fire!), raising her 3 kids (and grandkids)--the simple things.  Above all she served the Lord, as she put it, “a sinner saved by grace.”  After Joe’s death in 2007  Alice volunteered along with good friends at RC’s Thrift Shop in Modesto. 

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Joe (2007), Son-in-Law Martin Summerfield (1992) and a grandson, Christopher Lee Steigenga (1995).

She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses: Colleen & Dave Duke, John & Shirley Steigenga, and Dan & Lori Steigenga; 3 grandchildren and spouse/fiancées:  Heidi and Cameron Guerra, Kelly Joy Steigenga (fiancé Felix), and Jonathan James Steigenga (fiancé Anna); one sister, Betty Grace den Dulk; and many nieces and nephews of whom she was fond.
