Carol Ann Hand passed away peacefully on September 3, 2020 in Ripon at the age of 91. Carol was born on April 22, 1929 in Cawker City, Kansas to parents, Benjamin and Ada Dengerink. Carol has been a resident of Ripon for over 80 years.
As a young girl, Carol attended a one room school in Kansas. In 1941 Carol’s family moved to Ripon to join their relatives. She graduated from Ripon Christian High School in 1947. After Graduating, Carol worked as a secretary for Modesto City Schools from 1947 until 1951. She graduated from Calvin College in 1954 and began her teaching career at Ada Christian School. During this time Carol married Bob Hand in 1956. The two would enjoy 42 years together until Bob’s sudden death in 1998.
In 1959 Carol settled back in California with her family. She continued teaching as a substitute teacher but later stopped working to raise her three children. Together they all moved to a 10 acre almond ranch in Ripon. Carol retired completely in 1994 but she did work briefly as a hostess for the Ripon Community Center. Carol was a wonderful mother and grandmother, she will be remembered for her graciousness and generosity.
Carol leaves behind her children, Susan Hand, Mary Broggi Hall (Rob) and Tom Hand (Francine), her grandchildren, Tyler Broggi, Jared Broggi and Jacob Hand along with her great grandchild, Mason Broggi. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hand, her sister, Wanda Bruns and her brothers, Duane Dengerink and Larry Dengerink.
Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Hand family. A Visitation is set for Wednesday, Sept. 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10th at 10 AM at Ripon Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 AM at First Christian Reformed Church in Ripon.
