Hearts Love 13

Carolyn Ruth Schaapman

July 23, 1934 ~ January 23, 2024 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Carolyn Ruth Schaapman went to be with her Lord on January 23, 2024 at the age of 89. Carolyn was born in Whitinsville, MA on July 23, 1934 to Peter and Ruth Feddema. She attended Whitinsville Christian School, Northbridge High School, followed by Calvin College in Michigan. She met the love of her life, Allen, who was visiting her church in Whitinsville while on leave from the Navy. They married in 1955 and then made their home in Al’s hometown of Ripon, California where she lived for 69 years.

Carolyn was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Ripon where she served in youth ministry, and Hi-Camp counselor. She enjoyed working on the church newsletter as well as serving on the Prayer Team. In addition to raising her four children, she worked as an X-ray technician at Manteca Hospital and office manager at KFMR radio station. Along with keeping up with her grandchildren, Carolyn enjoyed her Women’s Bible Study over the years, dabbled in art with painting and drawing, refinishing furniture, antiquing and gardening. Carolyn and Al enjoyed camping trips to Clarks Fork in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and Moss Landing on the coast. They enjoyed many cross-country excursions to visit family and see God’s beautiful creation. Several trips overseas took them to Nigeria and Costa Rica for World Missions. More recently, Carolyn has enjoyed her coffee and visits with family, friends and neighbors on her front porch. She will be forever loved, and her humor, wit and infectious laughter will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, granddaughter Justine Teune, parents, and siblings Jean (Jim) Nydam, Jack (Bea) Feddema, Pete (Milly) Feddema and Sister-in-law Lucy (Lee) De Heer. She is survived by her children, John (Annette) Schaapman, Cindy (Randy) Croslin, Jean (Jim) Teune, and Lisa (Rick) Van Houten; her grandchildren Jennifer (Jesse) Forgues, Daniel Croslin, Joel (Caitlin) Schaapman, Angie (Jack) Postma, Jared Teune, Natalie (Cory) Cromer; seven great-grandchildren Holt, Levi & Gwenyth Postma, Rowan & Hallie Schaapman, Jesse & Jean-Pierre’ Forgues, sister-in-law Bernie Johnson, nieces and nephews.
