Carolyn was born to Adolph and Cornelia Heersink in Alamosa, Colorado and moved with her family to Modesto when she was 8. She attended Ripon Christian grammar school and Modesto High School. In 1954 she married her devoted husband of 64 years, Ralph Westra. As a dedicated Christian she displayed her talents of creativity and loving attention to details in making a home that was warm and hospitable not to mention delicious. She was a secretary for Stanislaus Union School and also was the bookkeeper for her husband’s many enterprises. After a lengthy battle with a variety of ailments, she peacefully went to her heavenly home.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ralph, and four daughters: Audrey (Michael) Crum , Laurie Westra, Ruth (Raymond) Enas, and Carol (Robert) Bakker in addition she delighted in her grandchildren, Heather (Jeremy) Scott, Holly Crum, Esther Enas, Daniel (Apryl) Enas, Olivia (Collin) Tyhurst, Jesse Enas, Josiah (Bethany) Enas, Faith Enas, Drew Bakker, Rachel Bakker and Lydia Bakker along with six great grandchildren. Also surviving her are three siblings: Oliver Heersink, Johanna Klein and David Heersink. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Geraldine DeBoer and Roger Heersink.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, graveside at Ripon Cemetery at 10 am and the memorial service at Zion United Reformed Church in Ripon at 11 am. We would like to thank El Rio Memory Care and Optimal Hospice for their loving care of her and the family. Gifts of remembrance can be given to Bethany Christian Services or Sierra Salem Christian Homes.
