Frank Crandal

December 3, 1925 ~ February 10, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Frank was born December 3, 1925 in Wasco, CA to Robert John and Mercedes Crandal; he was the youngest of eight children and last surviving member.  The family moved to Escalon, CA when he was 5 and he lived there the rest of his life until his passing on Friday, Feb 10, 2017.

Frank graduated from Escalon Grammar school and Escalon High School.  He served proudly in the US Navy during WWII aboard the Light Cruiser USS Boise from March 1944 to May 19, 1946.  He worked at the Escalon Post Office for 36 and a half years from March 1947 to January 1984.  He was appointed Postmaster July 1, 1970 until his retirement.  He married Lorraine Perry on Aug. 29, 1948.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon since 1936.  He served as secretary, treasurer and later, President of the Young Men’s Institute of the church.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 263 serving as adjutant for 2 years.

He was a coach, umpire and volunteer for the Escalon Boys Baseball team.  He served as a former member and on the Board of Directors and President of the Escalon Boys Baseball Association, member and Board of Director of the Escalon Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Escalon Recreation Commission.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine, his sons, James and wife Jean Crandal, and Ken and wife Carol Crandal, his grandchildren: Nicole Antonovich (Darren), Matt Crandal, Jamie Crandal, Melissa and Courtney Ziegenbein and his great grandchildren: Kira and Kali Castellanos, Jillian and John Paul Antonovich as well as many nieces and nephews.

Frank enjoyed gardening and traveling.  Together with Lorraine they visited all 50 states, mostly by car, and Canada, Mexico, The Azores, Portugal and the Caribbean.  They also shared a love of gardening and had a wide variety of vegetables including sugar cane and peanuts and had many fruit trees all his adult life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel.  A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon.
