Freda Green

Freda Green Went home to her Lord on May 30, 2021, at the age of 81, in Modesto, California. She was born Freda Deboer in Luverne, Minnesota to parents Charles and Alberta Deboer.

Freda had a heart of gold and loved her family dearly.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.  Freda moved to Ripon, Ca when she was five years old from Luverne, Minnesota. Her parents taught their children the value of hard work and came to California for opportunities. As a family, they built Deboer Trucking in Ripon, Ca. Then she met the love of her life, Larry, while cruising 10th street in Modesto. The two were married in 1958. Freda worked for the family business from the time she graduated high school to when she moved on to work at Northern Refrigerated Transportation. All the while raising her two boys, Lawrence Jr and Charles. Both Freda and Larry loved the outdoors and spent many days out on the lake in their boat or camping and fishing with family. They took countless trips in their motor home with family and friends. Gambling was another activity Freda and Larry enjoyed and Freda was known for her lucky streak! Freda and her family ventured to Lake Tahoe and Reno many times over the years.  Around 1972, Freda and Larry purchased an almond ranch on Carrolton Road. Freda loved to open her home for entertaining and family gatherings.  In 1992, Freda and Larry moved to Oakdale near the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Freda learned to golf and loved to socialize with her friends playing bunco and hosting Friday night gatherings. Larry and Freda went on many trips to Mexico, Australia and Palm Springs.

Freda’s compassion and love for her grandchildren could not be overlooked. She spent the majority of her free time with her grandchildren swimming, promoting their education and caring for them. Freda was a lifelong learner who attended college courses well into her 60s and even earned her Real Estate License. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her eight great-grandchildren. She and Larry lived a full life and had many happy days. At Larry's passing in 2019, they had been married for 61 years. Freda’s kindness and generosity goes unmatched. We will miss her infectious laughter, positive attitude and unconditional love. Above all though, Freda knew her Lord and savior and will be eternally resting in his arms.

Freda Is preceded in passing by her beloved husband of 61 years, Lawrence Green; her children, Lawrence “Butch” Green Jr. and Charles “Chuckie” Green and siblings, Sandra Camara and Jerry Deboer. She is survived by her Grandchildren, Zachary Gree, of Turlock, Melissa Benavidez of South Lake Tahoe, Amber Smith of Turlock, and Veronica Green of Oakdale; her siblings, Judi VanReit of Ripon, Charlotte Wright of Escalon as well as 8 Great-Grandchildren.

Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Green Family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Deegan Ripon Chapel on Monday, June 7th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Freda’s honor to the Modesto Gospel Mission.
