The most important thing Garret Albert Nydam would want you to know about himself is that he loved Jesus Christ and that he would want you to know Jesus as your Savior too. Garret’s love for the Lord impacted every part of his life.
He was born on September 19, 1960 to Jane and Albert Nydam in Gilroy, California. Garret spent most of his life in the Central Valley, living in Hughson and Modesto working as a pest control advisor. He met the love of his life and best friend, Cheryl Hulstein, in 1983 and they were married nine months later. They shared a passion for family, church and camping all throughout their lives, leading to many special memories in their 37 years of marriage.
Garret took advantage of any opportunity to be together with his parents and siblings, kids and grandkids. He loved visiting and talking with others. Garret also enjoyed heading to the lake for a day of fishing, sometimes by himself but often with family or friends along. In recent years, one of his favorite things was going with Cheryl on many “glamping” trips. Whether just the two of them or camping with others, Garret enjoyed being in God’s creation and just relaxing. Garret was deeply dedicated to his job and he worked hard to take care of each grower and field to the best of his ability.
Garret loved Jesus Christ with heart, mind, and soul. He sought to live a life pleasing to his God. His life verse was Micah 6:8 “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” He truly exemplified a quiet, earnest life lived in faithfulness to Christ.
Garret went to be with his Lord Jesus on August 28, 2021, in Modesto at the age of 60.
Garret joins his father Albert Nydam in heaven. He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Nydam, his children, David Nydam (Amber) and Caryn Lucas (Kevin), his grandchildren, Cienna, Maxson and Lincoln Nydam and Kensi and Abbie Lucas. Garret also leaves behind his mother Jane Nydam and his siblings, Ben Nydam (Melissa), John Nydam (Karen), Keith Nydam (Krista), Ron Nydam (Nicole), Jeanette Walhof (Kendal) and Arlene Heynen (Dave). He will also be greatly missed by his extended family, many friends and his Mid Valley Agricultural Services work family.
A celebration of Garret’s life will be held on Saturday, September 11 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Chapel in Modesto. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers (they always made Garret sneeze!), the family would love any donations in Garret’s name to go to a place that speaks the truth of Jesus Christ. Garret supported a variety of different local and national organizations from Modesto Pregnancy Center and Stockton/Modesto Gospel Missions to World Help and Focus on the Family. His heart would be for any money in his honor to be given to further the work of God’s kingdom
