Gerrit "Gary" Doppenberg, age 80, passed away at home in Ripon on October 30, 2021, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born in Chandler, Minnesota in 1941, to Carl and Hattie (Weeda) Doppenberg. Gary grew up in Chandler, Minnesota. After getting married to Edith DeWeerd in 1963, they moved to California and eventually settled in Ripon in 1971 where he started working for McManis Farms. He enjoyed farming and orchard work for the next 34 years.
Gary was a member of Calvary Reformed Church in Ripon, California. He loved fishing, camping, and traveling with family and friends, and square-dancing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family which included many fun nights of playing cards. He was also a dedicated 45 gallon blood donor for the Red Cross and took pride in knowing that his rare blood type was helping many people.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife, Edith: three daughters, Michelle Brown (Gary Hendrix) of Modesto, California; Maureen (Peter) Flanders of Ripon, California; Melinda (Tim) Buletti of Auberry, California; seven grandchildren: Kaitlin, Annalise, Matthew & Emily Buletti; Maddison & Ian Flanders; MacKenzie Brown; siblings, Alberta "Bert" Kruen and Sharon Doppenberg.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hattie, sisters Telena "Teen" Hulstein, Carol Joekema, Marilynn Benedict, and brother John Doppenberg.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandpa.
