Hubert Earl Miller

April 9, 1921 ~ October 29, 2021 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Tribute

HUBERT EARL MILLER was born at Whittier, California on April 9, 1921 to Lloyd Orion and Rhoda Belle (Rumble) Miller. He was their second son of four boys and was a native son of California. He attended Los Nietos grammar school and graduated from Whittier High School.  On June 15, 1937 he accepted the Lord and was baptized along with six other young people by Uncle Esta Kreider. This was in the New River District of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church at Whittier.

On June 27, 1941 he was married to Mildred Ellen Root in Empire, CA by his Uncle Hubert Rumble.  This marriage was blessed with seven children and 80 years together.  They made their home at Whittier where he farmed oranges, peaches and avocados with his father and two brothers, Aaron and Harold.  As town was coming closer and crowding out the farming they made the decision to move to Modesto where he continued to be in the farming business with his brothers.  Over his lifetime he farmed peaches, almonds, walnuts, grapes, rice and was involved in sheep husbandry. Over the years he served on several farm related boards.

He was a charter member of the Tuolumne church district near Empire and a charter member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, New Conference.

He was anointed at the same time as our Mother in May 2016 when she was in the hospital.

He enjoyed camping and fishing at Herring Creek with his family, hiking, running, abalone diving at Tomales Bay, several trips to New England and some international travel. Searching out and including antiques for his many collections,  growing roses, the trips he took to the nursery where he would fill up the back of the pickup with blooming plants and flowers were things he enjoyed.  In his retirement years he did woodworking and shared his creations (birdhouses and little tables) with his children. In his later years he loved to read stories about the western movement and northwest mountain men.  His last few years were enriched by listening to sermons.

He was pleased with and enjoyed his 100th birthday party on April 10, 2021 attended by his multitude of offspring and his nieces and nephews. It was a beautiful day for a bar-b-que and picture taking time together.

He went into the presence of his Savior on October 29, 2021, having lived 100 years, 6 months and 20 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Rhoda Miller; infant brother, Carl David Miller; brother Aaron Miller; brother Harold Miller; daughter-in-law Karen Miller; granddaughter Corrie (Miller) Bauman, great-grandson Josiah Wren Brubaker and step-mother Anna Miller.

Left here to remember and praise God for the memories that we enjoy are seven children; Esther and husband Alfred Huffman, Robert and wife Shirley, John and wife Mary; Paul and wife Leah of WA; Marilyn and husband Garey Boone of VA; Sue and husband Leland Jamison; and Richard and wife Dawn; 28 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Ben Root; step sister-in-law Clara Meador, many nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ and friends.

Our special thanks go to the wonderful group of caretakers who made it possible for our parents to continue living in their own home together.

We thank our Heavenly Father for our many years of time spent with our father and God’s grace and mercy to all of us.
