Jacoba (Jo) Fikse Van Klompenburg was called home to the Lord on Saturday, October 13th, 2018, at the age of 99 years and 9 months. She was born on a farm in rural Sioux County, Iowa, and moved to southern California with her family during the Great Depression.
Jo married Harold Van Klompenburg in 1946 and soon after started a family. They moved to Ripon, CA in 1949 where she operated a beauty salon out of her home for thirty years. She was a devout Christian and a long time member of Calvary Reformed Church.
After retirement, Jo and Harold enjoyed many years of traveling, camping, fishing, and spending time with family. She enjoyed gardening and developed a love for painting ceramics at the Ripon Senior Center.
Jo is survived by her sister-in-law June Maxville of CA, brother-in-law Don Stein of AK, two children; Cheryl Durst and Jon (Sarah) Van Klompenburg, seven grandchildren; Gina Van Klompenburg, Dena (Adam) Green, James Van Klompenburg, Brent (Leigh) Durst, Kristen Durst, Eric Durst, Leah (Abe) Durst-Lee, two great-grandchildren; Michelle and Joshua Durst, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents Edward and Hendrika Fikse, step-mother Elsie Fikse, and six siblings; Wilmina, Geneva, Harriet, Henrich, Evelyn, and Eunice.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 27th at 11am at the Atlanta M.E. Cemetery (on Lone Tree Rd. near Jack Tone), followed by a gathering.
