Dad grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he attended Clemmons School. Dad had a lot of fond memories growing up and loved recounting stories about dirt track stock car racing, coon hunting, fishing at the coast, going to the country store with his buddies and his job driving truck for a local gravel company. Dad married Marianne Jamison on September 29, 1954 in Quinter, Kansas.  After completing his C.O. service at Larned, Kansas in 1957 they moved to Modesto, California. That same year Dad was baptized on April 16  into the Old German Baptist Church. Dad’s jobs included truck driving, working at the Hershey plant, and then a long career of 45 years at Overholtzer Church Furniture. Dad took a genuine interest in all the people he interacted with, both socially and professionally, developing many long-lasting friendships. In their later years Dad and Mom enjoyed their trips to Apple Hill and Watsonville making apple butter and sharing his collection of apple peelers. They were married 63 years and blessed with 3 children.

In September of 1998, Mom contracted Viral Encephalitis and for 19 years until Moms passing Dad faithfully and lovingly cared for her. In February of 2017 Dad was diagnosed with Vasculitis which he never recovered from.
