Rose M. Travaille

Rose Travaille, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2017 at Bethany Home in Ripon.  Rose was born to Egbert and Minnie Gelderman on June 5, 1928 in Iowa.  The fourth of six children, Rose was named after a Sioux Indian who took her parents in when they lost their entire home in a tornado.  When Rose was nine years old, the family moved to California and settled in Manteca where Rose attended school.  After high school, Rose worked as a switchboard operator for the Manteca Telephone Company.  In 1946, Rose married the love of her life, Charles Travaille.  They settled on an almond orchard in Ripon and later moved to a ranch in Manteca.  They had two children.  Rose was a hard worker and helped on the ranch when she could.  Over their 61 years of marriage, Rose and Charlie built a life around faith, family and farming.  She enjoyed playing the organ, singing, bowling, baking, traveling and being with family and friends.  She was a role model to her children and grandchildren.

Rose was proceeded in death by her husband, Charles, her sisters, Gertrude Owens, Wilma Wever, and Evelyn Boer and brother,William Gelderman.  She is survived by her sister, Julie McManis of Modesto, children Bud (Debbie) Travaille of Manteca and Judith (John) Doidge of Ripon, her grandchildren Grant (Sher) VanDuyn of Manteca, Tara (Caleb) Gervase of Escalon, Michael (Stephanie) and Brandon Jerome of Ripon and eight great grandchildren.  She always wore a smile and will be missed by friends and family.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Ripon Cemetery at 320 North Stockton Avenue, followed by a celebration of Rose's life at Calvary Reformed Church on 724 W. Second Street, Ripon at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Bethany Home, 930 W. Main St., Ripon, CA 95366. Deegan Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
