Tonnis Hoekzema

Tonnis (Tony) Hoekzema, 93, entered into rest on August 19, 2017 at his home in Ripon. He was born on May 30, 1924 to his parents Tido & Grietje (Visser) Hoekzema in the Netherlands. Tony leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Frederika A. Hoekzema, his children Ina Douma (Ron) of Ripon, Tido Hoekzema (Jean) of Ripon and Gerard Hoekzema (Laurie) of Modesto. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren Shawn Douma of Ripon, Heather Aguilar of Seattle, WA, Janelle Lazette of Ripon, Denise Hoekzema of San Diego, Brad Hoekzema of Ripon, Tiffany, Krystal and Morgan Hoekzema of Modesto and 9 great grandchildren.

Tony was a loyal, hardworking man and a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church. He retired from PG&E as an architectural draftsman and in his spare time enjoyed drawing house plans and taking care of his small almond orchard in the Ripon area. Tony proudly served in the Dutch Navy in the late 1940s and was a member of the Ripon Planning Commission for many years. He enjoyed reading Dutch newspapers online. One of Tony’s favorite hobbies was going out on his boat. He loved to sail and fish, especially in Santa Cruz. At one time Tony drew political cartoons for the Modesto Bee. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel. A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 5-7pm at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 South Palm Avenue in Ripon. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11am at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 517 Orange Avenue in Ripon.
