Vivian Anne Roorda

April 13, 1940 – April 15, 2021

Vivian Anne (Tanis) Roorda of Ripon, CA  was called home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday April 15, 2021, after an extended battle with cancer.

Vivian was born to Rev. Evert and Anna Tanis in Alameda, CA and was a sister to Eugene Tanis of Arnold, CA and Rev Laverne Tanis of Oakdale, CA, who preceded her in death. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Ripon, CA where Vivian lived for the remainder of her years.

She married her lifelong love, Minard Roorda, on June 11, 1959. They were married for 61 years and 10 months. Together, they had 4 children. Vivian is survived by 3 of her children: Deloris Roorda of Portland, OR, Rodney Roorda of Ripon, CA, and Darlene Nyswonger of Ripon, CA. She is preceded in death by her son, Rick Roorda. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Aubrey Nyswonger of Ripon.

Vivian was full of joy and that joy shone through when she played the organ and the piano. People enjoyed spending time with her because she lit up a room with her beautiful smile and happy personality. She loved to play games, share her numerous books, and was an avid swimmer. She was always a gracious hostess, providing meals and baked goods for those who visited and even sending a lunch along with a guest if they couldn’t stay for a meal. Vivian was very devoted to her husband. They walked together wherever God called them to minister. She was also a wonderful mother who was always there for her children, Vivian’s life showed a selfless spirit which displayed her love for Christ as her personal Savior.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Almond Valley Christian Reformed Church located at 333 South Wilma Ave. in Ripon, CA.
